Exercise Science Summer Immersion Program

Do you have a passion for sports and fitness, enjoy being active and want a fast-paced career? Are you curious about how the body works? Exercise Science prepares students for careers in fitness and health promotion, strength and conditioning, and wellness programs. Explore the world of exercise science through the hands-on COMPASS program. Students will learn from Montreat College faculty and industry experts about our bodies’ functionality, fitness assessments, and careers in the field.

COMPASS 2023 will be held June 23-28, 2024. The program will be facilitated by Montreat College Assistant Professor of Exercise Science Dr. Robyn York and Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, Jarrett Walbolt.

Hands-On Experience

  • Pre-exercise Health Screenings 
  • One Mile Run Test

A Day in the Life

  • 7:30-8:30 a.m.: Breakfast  
  • 8:45-10 a.m.: Session 1 – Data Collection & Screening  
  • 10-10:15 a.m.: Break  
  • 10:15 a.m.-12 p.m.: Session 2 – Pre-Exercise Health Screening  
  • 12-1 p.m.: Lunch  
  • 1:15-2:45 p.m.: Session 3 – Aerobic Fitness at Black Mountain Campus
  • 2:45-3 p.m.: Break  
  • 3-4:30 p.m.: Session 4 – 1 Mile Run Test  
  • 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Free Time  
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Dinner 
  • 10 p.m.: Lights Out

Where You'll Stay

COMPASS attendees will stay in newly-renovated Anderson Residence Hall. Rooms include two twin beds, two dressers, two desks, two chairs, two closets, one or two bookcases, and a private restroom.

Where You'll Eat

COMPASS attendees will dine in Howerton Dining Hall, which features multiple dining options to accommodate individuals with dietary preferences and allergies.
