Step 3: Relationships

Using Your Networks

Network: To interact with other people to exchange information and develop contacts, especially to further one’s career.

For extroverts, this sounds like heaven! To the introvert, a nightmare!

For all you introverts, it doesn’t have to be so bad. In fact, to network well, you may not need to meet anyone new at all. Instead, we begin with our existing network; this is the people you already know.

You may have heard it said that getting anywhere in life is all about who you know. While this isn’t always true, honestly, it helps. Connecting with the people you know is a great resource in discovering job and internship opportunities or getting connected with the right people to get you there.

Are you planning for a career in healthcare? Then ask yourself who you know who works in healthcare that may be able to connect you to opportunities. This is networking, and tapping into your networks is a tremendous way to open up your job or internship opportunities.
