Psychology Summer Immersion Program

Studying psychology provides a solid foundation for counseling and other human services work. Do you have a passion for understanding human behaviors and helping people cope with life’s routine obstacles? Explore the world of psychology with hands-on experiences at COMPASS. Students will learn from Montreat College faculty and industry experts about our brains’ functionality, psychological theories, and processes.

COMPASS 2022 will be held June 19-24, 2022. The program will be facilitated by Montreat College Associate Professor of Psychology and Human Services, Dr. Megan Clunan.

  • 8:00-9:00 a.m.: Breakfast
  • 9:00 a.m.: Build a Brain: How our childhood experiences impact us today!
  • 10:15-10:30 a.m.: Break
  • 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Theories of development: What do you think?
  • 12:00-1:00 p.m.: Lunch
  • 1:00-2:30 p.m.: Time for a story…yours! Narrative Therapy and your storyline.
  • 2:30-5:30 p.m.: Free Time
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Dinner
  • 6:30-10:00 p.m.: Evening Activity
  • 11:00 p.m.: Lights Out
  • 7:30-8:30 a.m.: Breakfast  
  • 8:45-10 a.m.: Session 1 – Data Collection & Screening  
  • 10-10:15 a.m.: Break  
  • 10:15 a.m.-12 p.m.: Session 2 – Pre-Exercise Health Screening  
  • 12-1 p.m.: Lunch  
  • 1:15-2:45 p.m.: Session 3 – Aerobic Fitness at Black Mountain Campus
  • 2:45-3 p.m.: Break  
  • 3-4:30 p.m.: Session 4 – 1 Mile Run Test  
  • 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Free Time  
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Dinner  
  • 6:30-10 p.m.: Evening Activity – Capture the Flag  
  • 10 p.m.: Lights Out

Where You'll Stay

COMPASS attendees will stay in newly-renovated Anderson Residence Hall. Rooms include two twin beds, two dressers, two desks, two chairs, two closets, one or two bookcases, and a private restroom.

Where You'll Eat

COMPASS attendees will dine in Howerton Dining Hall, which features multiple dining options to accommodate individuals with dietary preferences and allergies.
