Get the most out of your Montreat experience by taking advantage of nearby Asheville, North Carolina’s vibrant cultural life, the vast playground of outdoor activities available right in our backyard, and a wide range of student activities: Spring and Winter formals, Downhill Derby, Pops Concert, regular coffee houses, King of Hearts pageant, Battle of the Bands, Calling & Career symposium, Film Festival, dorm Bible studies, intramural sports, and much more.
If you like outdoor adventure, then you’re in the right place. Our area is known internationally for its beautiful, rugged setting. (We’re a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts.) But that’s not everything we have going on here—we enjoy good food, good fellowship, good music, and a wide variety of cultural events. Here are a few to get you started.
We’re into music.
So we bring in musicians like Derek Webb, Bill Mallonee, Kellin Watson, and the Urban Sophisticates. You also might appreciate the Firecracker Jazz Band, Randal Goodgame, Andy Osenga, Bebo Norman, the Annie Moses Band, Ellery, and Katie Bowser. The list goes on and on—and spans a wide range of musical genres.
So many Activities…
We’re also into talent shows, open mic nights, coffeehouses, and film festivals. We coordinate fun annual traditions like the King of Hearts pageant, Downhill Derby challenge, and Paddle Boat race. You can go rafting during the day and wear yourself out completely at a specialty dance that night. Student activities coordinators stay busy, so that you can, too.
There’s tons to do on campus. But that’s just the beginning. Here are some of our favorite places to visit in the Montreat area:
