Job Posting: Reference-Instruction Librarian

Summary

The Reference-Instruction Librarian works under the direction of the Library Director and is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing the library’s instruction program, for providing reference and outreach assistance, and for assisting with managing the library’s student workers staffing and scheduling. This is a full-time, twelve-month position with faculty status and rank.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, devises, and implements the library’s instruction program for Montreat College.
  • Teaches course-specific information literacy skills and research strategies to students both in-person and through asynchronous means including email, chat, and recorded video
  • Proactively provides outreach and reference services to Montreat students and faculty, in-person and through virtual tools such as teams.
  • Plans, creates, and manages instructional web-based content, including videos, tutorials, and online research guides.
  • Develops and implements a program to assess the library instruction program, prepares reports, and recommends adaptations based on the outcome of these assessments.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves on committees, attends faculty meetings, and performs other responsibilities as a faculty member.
  • Assists in managing student workers, including assisting with recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, and oversight.
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures.
  • Assists with the Interlibrary Loan program in partnership with the Circulation Desk Assistant.
  • Other duties as described in the faculty handbook or assigned by the library director.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Affirm the Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith and Community Life Covenant of Montreat College.
  • Demonstrate support for Christian liberal arts education and exhibit the ability to integrate faith.
  • Deliver excellent teaching with a high level of pedagogical acumen, including developing instructional curricula in line with professional best practices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, collegial team-based setting as well as to operate as an independent, self-directed professional able to establish goals and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to learn and use the OCLC WMS integrated library system.
