Job Posting: Graduate Assistant for Academic Support

Summary

The Graduate Assistant for Academic Support will assist the Director of Academic Support. As part of the Thrive Center team, the Graduate Assistant will support the development and delivery of services and resources to help students successfully achieve their academic goals. The Graduate Assistant is expected to affirm, model, and cultivate the Christ-centered mission of Montreat College.

Essential Functions

  • Meet with students individually or in small groups for academic support sessions focused on skills such as academic planning, time management, organization, note-taking, studying, and test-taking strategies
  • Assist with Testing Services to proctor and administer tests for make-up testing, testing accommodations, and Exit Exams. 
  • Develop and facilitate academic workshops throughout the semester. 
  • Provide a supportive environment that is positive and focused on assisting students with their academic goals and objectives. 
  • Assist in the development of online resources for academic support.
  • Assist with tracking student progress. 
  • Communicate timely and effectively with the Director of Academic Support and attend Thrive Center staff meetings. 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution is required.
  • Ability to adhere to the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA). 
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to set appropriate professional boundaries with students. 
  • Must be able to serve as a positive role model for students and the Thrive Center Academic Support Staff. 

 Start date is August 1, 2024. Remuneration includes tuition and stipend.

This is a 20 hour per week, 10-month position that requires the employee to be a full-time student in a Montreat College graduate studies program. (Stipend will be distributed over 12 months.)
