I was considering where I might be going next and continued applying to schools and for scholarships. I knew that if I continued, I wanted it to be a place that was going to cultivate my faith and offer something that I enjoyed studying—which was clearly outdoor recreation after living out in Colorado. Montreat College was the only one that offered specifically that. As scholarships fell into place and doors opened, it really seemed like the Lord was calling me here.

I was looking into American colleges and was connected with a lady from Black Mountain; we used to do ministry with her back in Ukraine. When she told me about Montreat College and some scholarship opportunities with Samaritan’s Purse, I arrived here. I didn’t actually get the scholarship from Samaritan’s Purse, but Montreat covered half of my expenses, which was amazing. For the other half, a lot of churches around the states graciously helped me to get through my studies here.

One of my friends has a saying whenever something is going wrong: “Don’t worry, there are never two semesters alike at Montreat.” We always say we’ve lived so many lives here; I feel like I’ve been here for eight years! You never know what God’s going to do. You just have to be willing to let Him do it.
