Prior to coming to Montreat College in 2023, Timothy Shanahan enjoyed a career as a Special Agent and Polygraph Examiner for the United States Treasury Department. Throughout his tenure as a criminal investigator, he specialized in conducting high-stakes white-collar criminal investigations, delving into complex realms, such as money laundering, drug and terrorist financing, and tax evasion. He holds certifications as a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Forensic Interviewer.
Shanahan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Public Administration from SUNY Brockport. He is also a candidate for a Doctor of Business Administration at Indiana Wesleyan University. He has previously taught at Nazareth University, SUNY Brockport, and Keuka College in Upstate New York. He has a keen passion for forensic accounting and fraud examination, and he actively explores fraud prevention strategies and control mechanisms tailored for small and mid-sized businesses. Beyond his investigative interests, Shanahan has a profound interest in the study and teaching of business leadership and management with a distinctive Christian-based perspective.
When he’s not working, Shanahan enjoys hiking and running. He and his wife have three adult sons.
