Montreat College’s Teacher Education program prepares graduates to meet this urgent need, empowering future teachers to live out their calling to educate, inspire, and serve. Our framework provides a streamlined path to licensure through multiple concentrations, including Elementary Education, Secondary English (Grades 9–12), Secondary History (Grades 9–12), and Physical Education (K–12). Each concentration builds on a shared core focused on practical experience, pedagogy, and professional preparation.

Montreat College also offers an Elementary Education Residency Licensure.

Concentrations

Montreat College’s Elementary Education (K–6 Licensure) concentration prepares students to lead, teach, and inspire young learners in kindergarten through sixth grade. Rooted in a biblical worldview, the program equips future educators with the knowledge, skills, and heart to nurture curiosity, character, and academic growth in the next generation.

Elementary teachers play a vital role in cultivating a child’s curiosity, confidence, and love for learning. Montreat College’s Elementary Education concentration prepares students for this meaningful work through a blend of coursework, practicum experiences, and student teaching in local schools. Future educators earn a Bachelor of Science degree with North Carolina Initial Licensure, equipped to lead with excellence in the classroom.

Montreat College’s Secondary Education: History Concentration (Grades 9–12 Licensure) prepares students to teach high school history with insight, integrity, and purpose. Rooted in a biblical worldview, this program equips aspiring educators to help students understand the lessons of history, think critically about the present, and engage responsibly in the world around them. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree and North Carolina Initial Licensure, ready to step confidently into the classroom and make a lasting impact.

Montreat College’s Secondary Education: English Concentration (Grades 9–12 Licensure) equips aspiring teachers to ignite a passion for reading, writing, and critical thinking in their students. Blending rigorous study of British, American, and world literature with hands-on classroom experience, the program develops educators who communicate with excellence and teach with purpose. Grounded in a biblical worldview, students learn to connect timeless literary themes with real-world application. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree and North Carolina Initial Licensure.

Montreat College’s Health and Physical Education Concentration (K–12 Licensure) prepares students to lead active, healthy, and engaged classrooms for learners of all ages. This program blends rigorous study in anatomy, physiology, exercise science, and nutrition with hands-on teaching experience, equipping future educators to promote physical fitness, wellness, and lifelong healthy habits. Students also develop skills in pedagogy, adolescent psychology, and classroom management to create inclusive and motivating learning environments. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree and North Carolina Initial Licensure.
