Concentrations

Bring your writing dreams to life.

The creative writing concentration at Montreat College offers students the chance to explore their passion for writing in a supportive environment. Creative Writing majors engage in small, intensive workshop-style classes with professors and peers, allowing for personalized feedback and development.

Students also have opportunities to showcase their work through the sponsored reading series and submissions to The Lamp Post, Montreat College’s literary magazine. Aspiring poets, essayists, and novelists are encouraged to share their voices by participating in local writing festivals, contests, lectures, and public readings.

Connect timeless stories to today’s world.

The literature concentration offers students the opportunity to explore literary interpretation through an in-depth examination of a diverse range of texts. Students select courses from three categories: Early British Literature, Later British Literature, and United States Literature. Emphasizing historical, Christian, and formal modes of interpretation, the concentration encourages students to connect classic imaginative works with broader human themes found in art, economics, history, and current events.
