Position Summary: Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Events provides leadership and coordination for the planning, execution, and assessment of major events that support Montreat College’s mission, advancement goals, and institutional priorities. The essence of this role is to create the circumstances that will excite, inform and help people imagine how their values and purposes can be realized by donating to Montreat College. This role serves as the primary coordinator for high-profile events, working closely with the President’s Office, Advancement, Alumni Relations, and external partners to ensure events are executed with excellence, hospitality, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Strategically create, plan, coordinate, and execute Advancement focused events that strengthen relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
- Serve as a supportive resource to other institutional departments by providing expertise, coordination, and logistical assistance for other events as needed.
- In consultation with all departments, develop and manage a comprehensive institutional events calendar, coordinating priorities, timelines, and logistics across campus departments.
- Develop detailed event plans and timelines, manage logistics, and oversee on-site execution to ensure high-quality experiences for all participants.
- Manage event budgets, contracts, vendor relationships, and related financial processes in accordance with college policies and procedures.
- Coordinate event-related communications and promotional materials in collaboration with marketing and communications.
- Ensure events reflect Montreat College’s Christ-centered mission, hospitality standards, accessibility considerations, and institutional brand.
- Anticipate, assess, and manage event-related risks, contingencies, and problem-solving needs before and during events.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student workers, volunteers, and temporary staff supporting institutional events.
- Develop event standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and continuous improvement.
- Conduct post-event assessments, gather feedback, and provide recommendations to improve future events.
- Successful completion of these tasks will involve evaluations of quality of event outcomes, number of events, and number of participants attending the events. Goals for each metric will be developed annually.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides supervision for student workers, volunteers, and temporary staff supporting institutional events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Progressive experience in event planning, hospitality, advancement, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex, high-visibility events.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by the institutional event calendar.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office and event environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. This role requires frequent movement across campus and work in multiple indoor and outdoor venues, as well as occasional off-campus locations. Work includes regular evening and weekend commitments associated with institutional events. The noise level varies and may include large events, outdoor, and production settings.
Physical Demands

The employee must be able to communicate effectively; sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; navigate multiple venues across campus; and occasionally stoop, reach, bend, push, pull, or carry materials related to event setup and breakdown.
