Job Opening: Assistant or Associate Professor of Advanced Data and Information Security

Location: Montreat, North Carolina (onsite)

Start Date: August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter

Summary: The School of Arts and Sciences atMontreat College seeks a full-time faculty member in the Faculty of Technology and Human Industry to join the growing and dynamic Christ-centered undergraduate program on our campus in beautiful Western North Carolina. Montreat College’s cutting-edge and visionary Cybersecurity and Data Analytics program prepares students to solve the cybersecurity, data, and artificial intelligence issues and concerns faced today in many corporate and government environments. This program’s foundation consists of skills required to succeed in those environments: a combination of technical skills, communication, teamwork, ethics, and professionalism. Originally in 2017 and again in 2022, the Center for Cybersecurity Education and Leadership at Montreat College received the designation of Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). Since receiving the CAE-CD designation, Montreat has added to its offerings a BS in Data Analytics, a fully online BS in Cybersecurity, and an Associate of Applied Science in cybersecurity. Montreat College also launched the Carolina Cyber Center (C3) to leverage the tremendous progress in cyber education and focus on workforce development and training. Our mission is to provide excellence in education and training for Western North Carolina and beyond. Currently, C3 now boasts numerous industry partners who see the need for training, certifications, and another pathway into high-demand positions in cybersecurity. Montreat College also recently received significant funding from the state of North Carolina, private trusts and federal grants to further develop its Cybersecurity, Data, and AI profile and program, including a strong emphasis on technology ethics.

Duties and Responsibilities: The candidate will be responsible for:  

  • Teaching major courses in data, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence determined in accordance with evolving program requirements, current industry needs, and subject expertise determined by the candidate’s background. Ability to lead students in data, information security, and artificial intelligence research is desired, but teaching ability and industry experience with emphasis on ethical effectiveness are the key priorities.

  • Participating in faculty committees  
  • Other duties as described in the Faculty Handbook  

Qualifications: Successful candidate will be a leader in  Advanced Data and Information Security and will affirm and support the Mission, Vision, and Statement of Faith of Montreat College as found here: https://www.montreat.edu/about/mission/ The successful candidate will also demonstrate support for Christian liberal arts education and the specific ability to integrate faith and the discipline in a compelling, thoughtful manner. Teaching excellence and a willingness to serve the broader college community through service and committee work are also expected.  

Education/Experience:  

Required: An earned master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security/Assurance or Cybersecurity, and related experience in the industry. Graduate coursework in data analytics, data science or related areas expected.

Preferred: An earned doctorate or ABD status in related field and research experience; College-level teaching experience. Professional experience and industry certifications in Advanced Data and Information Security areas (such as Security +, CISSP, CISM, etc) are preferred and will be considered a part of the professional credentialing in the absence of a doctorate.
