Dr. Marie Wisner

Dr. Marie Wisner has been a member of the Montreat College community since 2017 as Associate Dean for Learning, Calling, and Career, providing leadership for the Thrive Center for Learning, Calling, and Career, which supports students’ success academically and in their discernment of calling and purpose. Marie began her career in higher education at Bethel University, shortly after completing her undergraduate degree from Bethel in English literature and writing, and while completing her master’s degree in counseling psychology. Additionally, Marie received her Ph.D. in higher education leadership from Azusa Pacific University, studying with special interest the areas of organizational leadership, positive psychology, strengths, and student leadership development. For 25 years prior to coming to Montreat College, Marie held several positions at Bethel University including resident director, associate dean of students, dean of students, and interim vice president for student life, providing leadership to areas that addressed student wellbeing and success, calling and career development, student activities, intercultural and international student programs, and student leadership development. In addition, she taught courses in leadership, psychology, and the first-year and transfer student experience. Marie is active in the Association for Christians in Student Development, and has served the organization as regional director, executive committee chair, and currently as executive director.

What is your favorite thing about working at Montreat?
I enjoy being a part of the Montreat College community and the opportunity to connect and learn together. I am also inspired by our motto, Esse Quam Videri, “to be rather than to seem,” which aspires to encourage students to authentically live their lives founded on a deep Christian faith.

What are your hobbies or interests?
I love camping, hiking, and especially paddling in my canoe, Sister Golden Hair Surprise.

Do you have a favorite restaurant in the area?
Liberty House Coffee and Cafe is one of my favorites.

What is your favorite thing to do or see in the area?
Exploring new trails, restaurants, coffee shops, and views
