The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for our area. Based on current weather forecasts, Montreat College will transition to remote work and learning for Monday, January 26. Starting Saturday at noon, all co-curricular activities, including athletic practices, have been canceled for the weekend. Decisions regarding Tuesday’s operations will be communicated by Monday at 1 p.m.
Students, your professors will communicate directly with their classes concerning how learning will be conducted on Monday in lieu of on-campus class meetings.
As a reminder, Students who live nearby are encouraged to go home after classes today, ahead of the storm. If possible, please consider taking a friend who does not live nearby with you. In case hazardous travel conditions require a shift to remote work and learning early next week, all students and employees should take laptops, chargers, and class or work materials home when leaving campus for the weekend.
If you’re unable to leave campus, make sure to charge all your devices and plan for the possibility of extended power outages. In the event campus does lose power this weekend, the Dining Hall will remain operational to provide meals and campus safety will be available. Students who live at Ridgecrest will have non-perishable meal options on site. The campus shuttle will continue to run on-call as long as road conditions permit.
The NWS does NOT recommend travel once this weather event begins. Please prepare now. If you take medications, please ensure that you have 1-2 weeks worth of medication on hand.
We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as more information becomes available. Please watch your Montreat College email and official college communication channels.
