Montreat College is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Todd von Helms as the college’s first Senior Fellow. This newly established position reflects the college’s commitment to intellectual inquiry, spiritual formation, and preparation for calling and career through a new Fellows Program at Montreat College.

As Senior Fellow, von Helms will collaborate with faculty and students, as well as engage with the broader community on Montreat’s behalf. He will be an important brand ambassador for Montreat College to a wide network of schools, churches, and individuals. Von Helms brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, with more than two decades of experience working with teenagers and college students as a professor, chaplain, headmaster, and speaker.

“We are delighted to welcome Todd to the Montreat community,” said President Paul J. Maurer. “The appointment of our first Senior Fellow is a significant step for the College and reflects our commitment to promoting academic excellence.”

Von Helms holds degrees from and affiliations with several institutions, including Duke University, Southern Methodist University, Dallas Baptist University, and the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of the book Before You Leave: For College, Career, and Eternity, and currently serves as a Senior Fellow at Southeastern Seminary, a Presidential Scholar at Dallas Baptist University, and a Senior Fellow at the King’s College in New York City. Von Helms also frequently speaks on college campuses and at churches across the country to promote civil discourse, critical thinking, and a deeper faith in God.

Von Helms was introduced to the Montreat community at the April 27 Keystone Scholarship Dinner in Charlotte. His role at Montreat College is set to begin on May 15, 2023.
