We welcome students from more than ten countries around the world. Our small size and integrated approach to faith and learning makes us a perfect home for international students. Here, you’ll be safe to grow in a Christian community of support.
International admission requirements
International applicants must be a graduate of a secondary school system or the equivalent, and must have sufficient proficiency of the English language to study at the college level. We are authorized to grant I-20 forms for the purposes of obtaining an F-1 student visa only. In order to receive an F-1 visa, you must be a full-time student.
Standard admission requirements include:
- An application for admission
- A letter of recommendation from a missionary or an appropriate agency representative, a headmaster, or a teacher. The individual submitting the recommendation must speak English and be able to verify the student’s English-speaking ability.
- An official, translated transcript of the student’s secondary school record, preferably indicating class rank and GPA. Montreat College highly recommends, and in some instances requires, that the applicant use a transcript translation and evaluation service (such as World Education Services, WES) in order to determine international academic credentials.
- SAT or ACT scores (for students who speak English as their first language)
- TOEFL results (for students who speak English as a second language). Students must have a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 on the paper-based test, a 213 on the computer-based test, or an 80 on the Internet-based test. Alternately, students can use the International English Language Testing System and achieve an overall band score of 6. International applicants may also elect to submit an official Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score or an American College Testing (ACT) score.
Conditional admission requirements are for international freshmen with a GPA lower than 2.75 and/or SAT scores lower than 1,000 (combined Critical Reading and Math) or ACT scores lower than 21 (Composite). These applicants are also required to:
- Submit an essay (“Why have you decided to attend Montreat College?”)
- Submit a letter of recommendation, preferably from a current teacher
- Arrange an interview (via phone or Skype)

I-20 forms
Before an I-20 form can be issued, students must:

- Submit the housing form and an advanced deposit of $100 (USD) issued to the student once they have been accepted
