And with one evening per week, our master’s degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling can empower you to make a difference in as little as three years. You’ll be grounded in theory, ethics, and strategies—prepared to counsel challenges and crises that are:

  • developmental
  • behavioral
  • psychological
  • social
  • emotional
  • career-based

If you’re committed to making an impact, then our master’s degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling will support and develop your capacities as a mental health counselor. Our curriculum prepares you to address multiple issues in context, and courses include:

  • Professional Orientation to Counseling
  • Counseling Across the Lifespan
  • Multicultural Counseling
  • Substance Abuse Counseling
  • Gender Issues in Counseling

We emphasize the power of experience and require a counseling practicum and two internships. The practicum sets you up to participate in a supervised clinical mental health counseling practice. Internships also give you supervised clinical experience, focusing on assessment and consultation.

Upon completion of our Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, you can meet the requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) license from the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. Whether you choose to study in Asheville, Charlotte, or Morganton you’ll have the potential to be an agent of social justice within the community—an advocate of transformation, renewal, and reconciliation as a mental health counselor.
