Dr. Mark Lassiter and four students traveled to Orlando, Florida from February 27 – March 4, 2010, but it wasn’t to attend Disney World. Rather, the group represented Montreat College at Pittcon, the premier scientific instrumentation and laboratory science conference in the world.

On Tuesday, March 23, the Montreat College Friends of Music will present a concert by the Mountains of Asheville Flute Ensemble. The concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Prodigal on the Montreat campus, and as with all Friends of Music concerts, the event is free to the public.

Montreat College announced on February 22 the names of the two recipients of the 2010 Colonel Lee B. Ledford Awards for Student Research, given annually by the Appalachian College Association. The winners, Carla Porterfield and Todd Yancey, will receive $3142 each.

"Electric Armageddon," a forthcoming episode of National Geographic Television's Explorer series featuring Montreat, Black Mountain, Dr. Bill Forstchen and the grisly realities of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on the United States will tentatively air on April 6th. Months ago, the film crew from Explorer came to town to shoot interviews and footage for a dramatization of what could happen in the aftermath of an EMP attack, and many members of the college community, town of Montreat and the Black Mountain community were involved in the project.
