Adult & Graduate Financial Aid Overview

We understand that applying for financial aid can be a complex, overwhelming task, so we’ve broken it down into logical steps that answer the following questions:

  • Are you eligible for aid?
  • Which types of aid are available?
  • How do you apply?

Let’s get started. We work hard to provide concise, relevant information. If you have further questions, please contact us financialservices@montreat.edu.

Student Eligibility

Our financial aid policies consider merit, need, and other abilities—matching financial aid packages to your personal situation. To receive aid, you must meet these basic eligibility requirements:

  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Have a valid Social Security Number
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Register for selective service, if required
  • Not be in default on a federal student loan or owe an overpayment on a federal student grant

Types of Aid

Most students’ financial aid funds are awarded based on financial need. The exceptions to this are unsubsidized Stafford Loans. The following aid options are thoroughly explained in Aid Sources.

  • VA benefits
  • Grants
  • Scholarships
  • Loans
  • Work-study
