Job Posting: Director of the L. Nelson Bell Library

Location: Montreat, North Carolina

The Director of the L. Nelson Bell Library works under the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for the administration of the library. The Director oversees the development of the collection and integrates emerging technologies into library operations. This is a twelve-month position with faculty status. Depending on ability and experience, duties may also include more fully and directly overseeing the electronic resources of the library in conjunction with the Research Outreach Librarian (ROL, who the Director supervises). The ROL is full time, and there are two other part-time staff, along with a group of student workers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and implements library policy.
  • Administers library operating budget.
  • Assesses library staffing needs and makes recommendations to the VPAA.
  • Supervises library staff.
  • Provides library services in collaboration with the library team.
  • Oversees ongoing evaluation of the library; prepares annual assessment reports.
  • Prepares reports, surveys, grant applications, etc.
  • Establishes resource sharing agreements and consortial relationships with other libraries.
  • Promotes good library public relations.
  • Provides oversight of the library building; reports maintenance issues.
  • Chairs the Library Committee.
  • Serves on the board of the Friends of the Library.
  • Serves on faculty committees, attends faculty meetings.
  • Seeks professional development opportunities; maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations; attends professional meetings.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate support for Christian liberal arts education and the specific ability to integrate faith and Christian discipline in a compelling, thoughtful manner. Education and Qualifications

Minimum of the Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science and three years of relevant academic library experience.
