Status: This is a 10-month full-time position, benefitted (+ 3-5 hours remote per week during summer)
Position Summary
Within the scope of the counseling license, this position will provide counseling for individual students and or couples/groups as needed.

Education / Experience
- Masters degree in counseling, social work, or related degree; License with state of North Carolina preferred.
- 2 years of counseling experience preferred.
- Experience in higher education is preferred.
- Experience with disability services support is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide intake/initial assessments, crisis intervention and individual, couple or group counseling for students as needed. Make referrals as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention during office hours and after office hours when available.
- Actively manage the counseling budget.
- Attend professional development activities.
- Review and update college policies relating to issues of mental/emotional health of college students, and ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with state and/or federal regulations.
- Provide education about topics related to emotional/mental health through workshops, class visits, emails and resident hall visits.
- Provide training for all Residence Life staff to help prevent and prepare for crisis situations.
- Participate in New Student orientation as requested.
- Participate with and/or work alongside Title IX Coordinator to update and maintain Title IX.
- Provide education to students and staff/faculty regarding Title IX including sexual assault/harassment prevention and response protocols.
- Review, update, and support college policies related to accommodations for disabilities
- Review students’ documentation and work with Academic Affairs, Residence Life, Health Services, and others to support students with accommodations.
- Serves on various committees including Disability Services Resources Committee, Safety Net, and others as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated ability to assess and analyze a situation correctly and adopt an effective course of action.
- Demonstrated ability to counsel current and prospective students effectively in individual/group settings.
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community at large.
- Demonstrated ability to make persuasive and effective presentations before groups whether in a training session or a conference setting.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence and commitment to multicultural organizational development.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural diversity.
- Familiarity with alcohol and drug programs.
- Strong written and oral communication.
- Understanding of how to support students with disabilities.
