Summary

The Head Coach for Men’s & Women’s Track & Field will provide leadership for the track & field program, under the direction of the Director of Cross Country/Track & Field (XC/TF). This position will be responsible for the recruitment, training, and development of student-athletes in the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws. This position will work with the Director of XC/TF in all aspects of the track & field program, including scheduling, budgeting, recruiting, community service, and leadership development under the Christ-centered mission of Montreat College. This position will also provide leadership in the organization and maintenance of the Montreat College track & field facility, including serving as meet director for competitions and being the primary liaison for all track & field events held at the facility. This position will also serve as an assistant coach for the Cross Country program. The successful candidate will also serve the athletic department as the Summer Camp Director.

Duties

  1. Oversee the recruiting efforts for the track & field program; recruiting student athletes for the team who will represent the mission of Montreat College.
  2. As Summer Camp Director, overseeing scheduling of each sport’s summer camp:
    a. Assist with camp marketing, brochures, website
    b. Create master calendar for camps
    c. Create registration/waiver/fee collecting procedures
    d. Work with closely with Athletic Administration to coordinate all summer camp functions
  3. Schedule team workouts and ensure that workouts do not conflict with the academic schedule, examination schedule, and regularly scheduled chapel and convocation services.
  4. Attend all departmental meetings when asked to do so.
  5. Be familiar with and adhere to departmental policies and procedures as well as NAIA and AAC regulations.
  6. Participate in the college and departmental planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  7. Participate in college activities, which include Discovery Days, Welcome Week (orientation), chapel and convocation, etc.
  8. Develop and maintain a work schedule (office hours) centered on student-athlete accessibility.
  9. Be invested in the conduct of athletes at all times in support of the team guidelines, Athletic Department policies, and Student Handbook.
  10. Be budget conscious when performing duties for the program.
  11. Actively participate with all athletic fund raising programs.
  12. Communicate the needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Director of XC/TF.
  13. Be responsible for providing statistical information to the Conference SID and Montreat College SID in a timely fashion.
  14. Organize and conducts practice sessions.
  15. Lead the team with at least two service projects per academic year to reach out to the community in servant-leadership.
  16. Produce effective and accurate recruiting and budget reports.
  17. Serve as primary meet manager for all track & field events held at the track & field facility.
  18. Maintain the daily operational needs and functions of the track & field facility.
  19. Successfully develop workouts to improve the strength, conditioning, and skills of the student-athletes.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution is required. Extra consideration will be given to candidates with successful recruiting, athletic development, and/or collegiate coaching/competitive experience. Must support and affirm the College’s faith statement and Community Life Covenant.

Supervision

The Head Coach for Men’s & Women’s Track & Field will report to the Athletic Director.
