President Paul J. Maurer is pleased to announce that Mr. Brian Guengerich (‘06) has accepted the invitation to serve as Montreat College’s next Vice President for Advancement.
“The combination of Brian’s experience, natural giftedness, relational orientation, and deep passion for his alma mater make him an outstanding choice for this most critical role,” says President Maurer.
Born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, Mr. Guengerich received his bachelor’s degree in human services from Montreat College in 2006. He launched his nonprofit career as a unit director at the Boys and Girls Club of Western North Carolina, ultimately working his way up to become the CEO.
In his 5 years as a CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of WNC, Mr. Guengerich grew the board from 0 to 20 members, doubled their budget, and doubled overall membership to the club. After nine years at the local organization, Guengerich went on to work for the National Boys and Girls Club office as a director of organizational development.
In 2018, Mr. Guengerich returned to Montreat College as the Senior Associate of Major Gifts. While in this position, he helped build the college’s major gift program and in early 2019, moved into the role of Director, Capital Campaign. Guengerich was named Interim Vice President for Advancement in January 2021, providing him the opportunity to work more closely with President Maurer. In his role as Vice President for Advancement, Mr. Guengerich will serve on cabinet, and will continue to connect, inspire and advance philanthropic efforts for the benefit of Montreat College.
“I am honored, grateful, and humbled to serve Montreat College in this capacity,” Guengerich says. “I am truly excited about the college’s future and look forward to what God has in store for this community.”
Mr. Guengerich and his wife, Danielle (’07), have three children and live in Black Mountain, NC.
