Montreat has many great qualities. However, a wishful comment I have heard among students for the last couple of years is the desire for more dining options. This semester, Aramark and Dining Services have outdone themselves again, providing the answer to our culinary prayers in the form of three letters: P.O.D.
What is a P.O.D.? P.O.D. stands for “Provisions on Demand.” Situated in the front corner of Bell Library, the Pod is the answer to our late night hunger pains or the need for a quick bite before class or practice. “Aramark brought the concept of the Pod to Montreat as another option to enhance the student dining experience” says Director of Food Services Sharon Randall. “It enhances the students’ meal plan options, especially at night, when the bookstore is closed, for those late night cravings.”
“Enhance” is certainly an appropriate word to use. The P.O.D. brings a host of new products to Montreat College Students. For those who need a caffeine fix, there is a cappuccino machine as well as fresh brew coffee like what is available in the dining hall. If you want to enjoy a meal in your room, frozen meals like Smart Made and Bagel Bites are available. There are also dry goods like microwaveable mac n’ cheese, Pop Tarts, and granola and protein bars. Candy and pint-sized ice cream are also available. Yogurt and sodas are offered in the refrigerated section, and other various necessities like medicine and school supplies are available for purchase behind the cash register.
Because of the P.O.D., Cav Cash has been increased from $225 to $275 this year to support opening the new location. That means students have $50 extra dollars to spend at any of the dining locations however they wish! The current hours for the P.O.D. are 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays, and 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. So, students, go check out your options at the P.O.D., and be on the lookout for a Montreat-related name coming to the location soon!
