Montreat College Students Win International Business Strategy Competition - Montreat College

Two Montreat College students—senior Antonio Rosina and junior Brien Lancaster—tied for first place in an international online competition run by the University of Alabama called The Business Strategy Game (BSG). Montreat senior Tanner Wilhoit also made the international Top 100, finishing 79th among the 25,000 competitors worldwide.

The BSG is the centerpiece of the Montreat College Business Department’s senior-level Strategic Management class. The 10-week online competition gives students the opportunity to own a simulated international business, serve as the CEO, and make many high-level business decisions—as many as 53 decisions each week. The simulation scores the quality of the decisions made according to real world standards like earnings per share, stock price, and other key business measures. The BSG teaches students to apply what they have learned in previous accounting, finance, economics, and marketing courses in an integrated way.

“We are very proud of our students’ performance in the Business Strategy Game,” said Montreat College President Paul J. Maurer. “The ability of our students to succeed on an international scale is a testament to the strength of our Business Department, and to the critical thinking skills we emphasize for all of our students.”

The BSG was launched in 1990 by the University of Alabama and has grown to accommodate 25,000 students from around the world. Montreat College has a history of placing students in the Top 100, including student Stefan Cazzonelli’s first-place finish in 2015, but Rosina and Lancaster’s shared victory marks the school’s greatest success yet.
