Montreat College will honor Dr. Charles T. “Chuck” Hood and Jeffrey Powers with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award during its 2015 Spring Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 9.

Dr. Chuck Hood is a 1975 graduate of Montreat-Anderson College. He earned his Ph.D. in higher education administration and leadership from Georgia State University in 1988 and has served in multiple leadership positions at well-known Christian colleges. He is also founder and current owner of Trans-Solutions Asheville LLC. He began his career in Christian higher education as an admissions counselor at Montreat-Anderson College, eventually being called to speak into the lives of thousands of college-age men and women as a dean of students and vice president for student services. While serving hundreds of faculty and staff colleagues, he distinguished himself as a mentor and a servant-leader. Called to be a Christian businessman, Hood serves as a consistent and ethical steward of goods and services in the free market economic environment. He has modeled Christ-likeness to all he meets and has represented his family, his alma mater, and his Lord and in a very earnest and worthy manner.

Jeffrey Powers is a 2011 graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Management degree program through the School of Adult and Graduate Studies. He currently serves as the vice president of global operations with the ThermoFisher Scientific plant in Asheville, and has previously held several other positions with the company since 2005. In 2008, he helped the Marietta, Ohio, plant receive the coveted industry recognition of Top 10 Best Plants by IndustryWeek magazine. In 2013, Powers was instrumental in the Asheville plant receiving the same award for manufacturing excellence. He has also completed the majority of the Master of Science in Management and Leadership degree program through Montreat College, but had to take a break in classes due to work commitments with ThermoFisher Scientific. Powers is a U.S. Air Force veteran and is considered by faculty and staff at Montreat College to be a man of strong Christian character with an outstanding work ethic.
