A team of seven students from Montreat College competed in the preliminary round of Southeast Regional of the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) this past Saturday, March 8. The CCDC was launched in 2005 as a way for students to gain experience in managing and protecting existing network infrastructures from malicious cyber-attacks. This year was Montreat’s first year of participation in the competition, and although the team failed to advance to the Regional finals, they performed admirably. “I am very proud of these students who worked so hard this academic year; what they have accomplished thus far deserves special mention and acknowledgement,” says the team’s faculty advisor, Dr. Jeff Teo. “There were many unknowns and uncertainties but they stayed focused and on task. We learned a lot and look forward to implementing changes and improvements for next year’s competitions.”
