Montreat College students Cameron Boyles and Alex Thompson placed 25th and 79th, respectively, in an international online competition called The Business Strategy Game (BSG). BSG allows participating students to take part in an elaborate simulation in which they act as the CEO of an international shoe business, making dozens of weekly decisions which—like the real-world decisions they are designed to simulate—lead to either financial success or failure. Both Boyles and Thompson participated in the simulation throughout the 2013 fall semester as part of a Strategic Management class at Montreat. Their high rankings were particularly impressive given the number of competitors (over 25,000) and the participation of most of America’s major universities—from the University of Texas to Penn State—as well as many international colleges and universities.
