The Music Business Department at Montreat College is looking for songwriters to submit Blue Ridge-inspired songs for inclusion on its upcoming album “Pathways to the Present, The Turpentine State.” Seven songs will be selected for inclusion on the album, which will be recorded free of charge at the Montreat College recording studio. These seven songs will then be performed at the album release party, where a panel of judges will award one songwriter with a $1000 Grand Prize.

The contest is open to any songwriter, and the songs may have lyrics or be instrumental, as long as they are inspired by the Blue Ridge area. Participating songwriters may perform the songs themselves or enlist another party to perform them, but the songs must be original, unpublished, and written or co-written by the entrant. The deadline for entry is Feb. 15.

Songs may be submitted as an mp3 or YouTube video at the official “Pathways to the Present Songwriting Contest” website: A $17 fee will be charged for each song submitted.
