On Tuesday, September 17, Montreat College students, staff, faculty and friends of the college participated in the college’s annual Community Day, a day of intentional service in the Montreat and Black Mountain community.

An estimated 300 members of the college community partnered with Black Mountain schools, Christ Community Church Montreat, Montreat Presbyterian Church, Montreat Landcare, and the Town of Black Mountain Parks and Recreation Department to perform more than 20 service projects around the surrounding community, including brush removal, trash pick-up, and trail maintenance.

A number of service groups also completed work around Montreat College’s Montreat and Black Mountain campuses.

“Service is woven into who we are and what we do,” explained Tom Oxenreider, associate dean of calling and career. “It’s exciting to see friends of the college, students, faculty and staff serving together and contributing to the communities where we live and work.”
