Black Mountain Recreation and Parks Department, in conjunction with Montreat College, will host “Throwback to the Classics” on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lake Tomahawk Park, located at 401 Laurel Circle Drive, Black Mountain, NC.  This free event will honor Black Mountain senior citizens and will include a variety of activities focusing on the 1950s and 1960s.

Members of Lakeview Senior Center and Montreat College students who were enrolled in Psychology Professor Dr. Brad Faircloth’s adult development course this past spring will facilitate the event.  The course included a service-learning component that will be fulfilled through the “Throwback to the Classics” event. 

The Black Mountain community is invited to share in the day’s festivities, which will include a talent show, music from the 50s and 60s, and local food vendors Duke’s Hot Dogs and Norman’s Ice Cream.  Bring a lawn chair and blanket and enjoy a free outdoor screening of “American Graffiti on the lawn at 7 p.m. 

Classic vehicle owners are also encouraged to RSVP and show off their vehicle at the event.

Attendees will have an opportunity to enter a raffle to win prized items, which are handcrafted by local seniors.  Raffle tickets are $5 each or 3 tickets for $12.  All proceeds benefit programming at Lakeview Senior Center.
