Montreat College presents Denny Rydberg, Young Life president and author, as the May Commencement keynote speaker. Rydberg will offer his address titled “The Great Race” at Montreat College’s Commencement on May 11 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium in Montreat, NC. This event is free and the community is warmly invited to attend.

Denny Rydberg became Young Life’s fifth president in 1993. During Rydberg’s tenure, Young Life has grown from just under 1,700 ministries to over 4,600 ministries in the U.S. and around the world. The number of kids being impacted has grown exponentially and the number of Young Life camps has grown from less than ten to over thirty. Young Life is now in over 75 countries.

Before joining Young Life, Rydberg served as director of university ministries at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle, WA. In addition, Rydberg has served as the vice president of Youth Specialties, director of operations for Inspirational Films and the editor of The Wittenburg Door. He has ministered as chaplain for the University of Washington basketball team and the Seattle Supersonics. Rydberg and his wife, Marilyn, have also been involved in the LPGA Fellowship – a ministry to women professional golfers on the LPGA tour. He is the author of ten books including Beyond Graduation, How to Survive in College, Twentysomething, Building Community in Youth Groups and Youth Group Trust Builders. He graduated from Seattle Pacific University and attended graduate school at Western Washington University. Rydberg and his wife, Marilyn, have four children and a growing number of grandchildren.
