Effective March 23, 2013, eight alumni will begin their tenure as Alumni Board members representing the Montreat College Alumni Association.
Kevin Auman ’92 began teaching at Montreat College in 1999. Kevin holds a B.A. from Montreat College and a M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Born into a family of entrepreneurs, he started his first business, Solution Systems, Inc., with his brother and best friend in 1985 after his first year of college. A lifelong musician and composer, it didn’t take long for music to become integrated with his business. Over the past 20 years, Kevin has held many roles in the music production and media industry: He’s owned a recording studio; he’s worked as a manager, partner, audio producer, engineer, broadcast music director, and production director; has managed concert promotion, direction, and logistics; has produced, directed and hosted nationally syndicated music programs; and managed record label distribution and inventory control. Kevin serves as the faculty representative to the Alumni Board.
Ann Ward Bullard graduated from Montreat College in 1958 after attending business school and working for Life Insurance Company in Georgia. She felt Christ’s call to service, and her minister helped guide her to Montreat College. After graduation, she joined the college staff as an admissions counselor for three years, and then she served as a Christian educator in the Shenandoah Presbyterian Church in Miami, Florida. After that, Ann entered Columbia Theological Seminary, earning her master’s degree in 1965. Since then, she has served in Presbyterian Church institutions in various capacities, including the Presbyterian Career and Personal Counseling Center, the Presbyterian Center in the Office of World Service and World Hunger, and the Atlanta Ministry with International Studies. She currently resides in Atlanta, and is a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. She enjoys being close to her family, traveling, and helping others.
Bob Graham ’93 was born in Atlanta but grew up in Weaverville, NC, after his family returned from spending three months in Switzerland at L’abri. His parents studied under Francis Schaeffer, and after returning to the US, started a Christian study center called “The Greenhouse”. After recommitting his life to Christ, Bob started at Montreat in the fall of 1989 and graduated with honors in 1993. Following graduation, he started a landscape company in Black Mountain and after running it for four years, took on the role of alumni director at Montreat College, where he served for eight years. Since then, Bob has worked for Apple, Inc., disaster relief efforts, and currently works with a software company in Hendersonville where he has recently purchased a historic home near downtown. Bob is single, enjoys guitar and singing, has a great West Highland terrier named Kenzie, and enjoys getting reconnected with old friends while making lots of new ones.
Lonnie McRavin ‘11 is a HR/Workers’ Compensation Specialist for Carolinas Healthcare System of Charlotte, NC. Lonnie was born in New Hyde Park, New York. He graduated from high school in Durham, NC. Lonnie received his bachelor and master degrees in management and leadership from Montreat College’s School of Adult and Graduate Studies. He currently attends the Queens University McColl School of Business, where he is pursuing a master’s degree in organization development.
Matt Miller is a 2001 graduate of Montreat College where he received a bachelor’s in environmental studies. Upon graduation he attended Appalachian State University where he received a master’s in geography and planning. Since that time Matt has taught at the college level for nine years, including four at Gainesville State College in northeast Georgia and five at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC. Matt’s wife, Staci, and two boys, Caleb and Blake, currently reside in his home town of Newton, NC.
Born and raised in Charleston, SC, Waldo Miller ’62 began his career at The Citadel, and then worked for two years at the College of Charleston as assistant to the librarian. He then came to Montreat-Anderson College, graduated in 1962, and continued on at Maryville College in Tennessee. Waldo earned his bachelor’s in history and master’s in American Studies from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Waldo met his wife, Fay, at Montreat when she was a freshman. They have been married since April 1964. Fay and Waldo have two children who are family-oriented and very active in their local church. Waldo was in education for 18 years as teacher, soccer coach, athletic director, administrator, and director of development at several private schools. He also served as assistant to the president at Berea College in Kentucky. Waldo transitioned from education to the travel industry where he has worked under the mentorship of several leaders in the industry. He is currently employed with AAA Carolinas in Charlotte, NC, where he and his family have lived for the last 18 years.
Jamie Havrilla Thomas graduated in 2001 from Montreat College with a major in biblical studies, concentration in youth ministry, and a minor in business administration. After graduating, she pursued a graduate degree at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary earning a Master of Arts in Leadership and Development. In 2001, she accepted a position from Forest Hill Church as a youth minister to middle school girls and served there for five years. In 2004, she married Steven “Wayne” Thomas, who is a Florida State business graduate and currently works with Bank of America. Since the birth of her children, Jamie started, developed, and maintained a successful nationwide company (Behind the Scenes Solutions) meeting specific individual business needs through virtual assistance, graphic and web design. Jamie currently resides in Charlotte, NC, with her family and attends Forest Hill Church. Her hobbies are learning new things, reading, occasionally entering 5-10k runs, and spending time with friends and extended family.
John C. Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in 2002 from the Montreat College School of Adult and Graduate Studies. He completed his last required class online while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the United States Air Force. Upon his return he was given an opportunity to become a commissioned officer and was appointed to the grade of Second Lieutenant in November of 2004. He has recently been promoted to the rank of Major. He currently is in his 23rd year of service to this great nation and works full-time as a Logistics Officer with the North Carolina Air National Guard. In 2012, John was recognized as the Distinguished Alumni Service Award recipient. John and his wife Beth currently live in Casar, NC, with their two children Emily, 18 and Zachary, 10.
