Digging Deeper Assignments

Participate in role-playing exercises with your supervisor and other tutors. Create scenarios that force you to focus on constructive and effective tutoring. What are some “What if?” situations that, by role playing in advance, could help you avoid conflicts later?

What if…

…you are tutoring a student who is writing a persuasive essay on a religion other than your own?

…you are tutoring a student whose sexual orientation is different from your own? Can you overcome this difference in order to provide objective tutoring?

…you are tutoring a student whose writing assignment focuses on a controversial topic about which you have an opposing point of view, e.g., abortion, gun control, censorship?

…you are tutoring a student whose personal habits are utterly annoying and/or offensive?

...you encounter a student who makes inappropriate sexual comments or advances?
