Student Life

Desiree Duff, ’14

After a year and a half at a large school as a performing arts major, I realized that God was calling me elsewhere. As soon as I got out of the car and stepped on Gaither lawn, I felt an overwhelming sensation of belonging, as if God was telling me I was supposed to be here. Transferring from what I thought was my dream school and changing my major to Worship Arts was the scariest and best decision I’ve ever made.

Montreat is a place like no other. Not only am I constantly blown away by the beauty of the campus, I am also amazed by the quality of the education, the amount of fun student activities, the excellence of the sports teams and the incredible love and respect that the professors, staff and students have for one another.

If you visit Montreat, you’ll hear one word over and over: community. The strong, supportive community at Montreat is what makes it really special. It is also what made me want to become a resident assistant in the dorms – to help build community. I’ve experienced so much encouragement from my peers and the faculty here. My faith has been challenged, expanded, and deepened through my classes, the convocation and chapel services and through my relationships on campus.
