Immersion Semester  

Immersion Semster:
Certificate in Wilderness Leadership

Montreat College Outdoor Education Department

January - May 2010.  Call or email for information today!  Applications being accepted for Spring 2010.

16 semester hours may include the following courses:
  • OE 306 Leadership and Group Dynamics (3 credits)
  • OE 312 Outdoor Programming and Leadership: Expedition Management (4 credits)
  • OE 313 Rock Climbing (4 credits)
  • PE 260 Winter Outdoor Education (1 credit)
  • ES 202 Field and Natural History (2 credits)
  • OE 341 Practicum (2 credits)
Certifications Available:
  • Wilderness Education Association (WEA) – Outdoor Leader Certification
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR Certifications

Features:

  • Over 45 days of field-based Wilderness Leadership Training from a Christian Worldview
  • Attendance at a Regional or National Outdoor Education Conference
  • Real world experience providing outdoor programming for local youth agencies
  • Small group living/learning community on the college's Black Mountain Campus
  • Wilderness First Responder Training and Certification

 Prerequisite Requirement for All Students:

  • Completion of OE 180, 181 or 182 or comparable wilderness expedition
Requirements for Consideration for Outdoor Education Majors:
  • Completion of OE 103, OE 190, (OE 112, OE 340, ES 201 - preferred)
  • Sophomore or Junior Class Standing(preference given to Juniors)

How to Register:

  • Complete Application and Interview Process
  • If Accepted, Submit $500 non-refundable deposit by October 25, 2009
  • $500 will be applied to the course fee for the program of $1,600
  • Application process for Spring 2010 will close October 25, 2009
