Marjorie Jordon Andrea '42
She has remarried as of June 3, 1994. The couple has been doing a lot of traveling to places like Key West and Alaska. The couple enjoys square dancing three to four times a week.

Nan Umphett Almer '43
She would like to hear from former classmates. She resides at 120 Warning St., Summerville, SC 29483. She has three daughters and nine grandchildren. Her husband is deceased. She is still active in church and as a parttime nurse at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville.

Maxine Suttle Albertson '44
Maxine married Freddie Albertson in 1946 and they lived in Newport News, VA for 34 years. Now retired and living on Lake Hickory in Taylorsville, NC, Maxine teaches several courses at Catawba Community College, including "English as a Second Language." The Albertsons have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Mary Hazel Kirk '44-45
Hazel is an accountant in the finance department for the City of Dunedin, FL. She has been a Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Dunedin for 20 years. Her father shared her home until his death at age 97 in 1987, and she enjoys her sister's family, which has given her two great great nephews and one great great niece!

Helen Hillman Shears '44-45
Helen attended Montreat in 1944-45, then went to Virginia Tech but returned to Montreat to teach English and math in the high school in 1948. She married Bill Shears in 1960 and they have three children: Charles, Martha and Ian. The Shears are active in Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church in Kingspoint, TN.

Elinor Jane Smith '44-45
Elinor is a teacher at South Ocala Elementary School. She attends the First Presbyterian Church in Ocala, where she is an elder, circle chairman and serves on various committees. She has five children and three grandchildren.

Lenore Orr Branham '46
After teaching public school music for 38 years, Lenore retired in 1989. She has been the choir director at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Blackstock, SC, since 1953. Her son, Steve Keith Branham '77 and his wife, Beth, have a daughter and a son, and Lenore finds the time to take care of her grandson five days a week.

Mary Jo Jackson Bratton '46 &'48
Mary Jo is a professor of history at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where she also serves as university historian and director of graduate studies for the history department. She earned a B.S. from Virginia Tech in 1949, a M.A. in 1966 and a Ph.D. in 1969 from UNC-Chapel Hill. Mary Jo has three children: Kathinne, Jess and Jackson.

Ethelyn Timmons Cherry '46
After completing her freshman year at Montreat, Ethelyn attended Winthrop College. She and her late husband, Earl, lived in Kingstree, SC. Ethelyn worked 12 years for Baxter Laboratories and has worked for Belk's for several years. Now living in Columbia, SC, Ethelyn is near her daughter. She also has a son in Greenville, SC.

Jewel Jarrett Church '46
Jewel is a real estate broker and owner of Timberline Realty in Hot Springs, NC, where she lives with her husband Reeves. She is a member of the Madison County Board of Education and attends Hot Springs Methodist Church.

Frances Aldonia Ransdell Covington '46
Aldonia is a benefits coordinator with the Jones Group, Inc. Construction firm in Charlotte, where she lives with her husband, Robert. The Covingtons attend Covenant Presbyterian Church and have four children: Dwight, Barry, Cynthia and Ann.

Marybeth Rea Craig '46
Marybeth and her husband, Jim, have become almost full time volunteers in a small Christian school near their home in Desert Hot Springs, CA. She is active in the school's music program and also plays organ for their church. The Craigs have two children.

Betty Lee Pool Lockhart Dykes '46
Betty has lived in St. Albans, WV since 1964. She and her late husband Thomas, had two children: William Thomas, who lives in Marietta, GA with his wife Linda and two sons; and daughter Martha Jean Collins, who is moving to Greensboro, NC with her husband Jack. In 1986, she received the Life Membership from the Women of the Church. In 1991, Betty married Norman Dykes, gaining a stepdaughter and granddaughter in her family.

Mabel Lee Wells Friend '46 & '48
Mabel lives in Roswell, GA with her husband Neil, who owns a rental office furniture and supply store. Mabel worked with him the first seven years but says "I am retired again now." The Friends have two daughters, one son and four grandchildren.

Mildred Lorene Young Gibson '46
"Mike" and her husband Troy Andrews are retired and living in Jamestown, NC. They have two children: Mark Andrew Gibson and Judy Aileen Gibson MacDowell.

Ruth Love Lee Higgins '46
Ruth is a secretary/receptionist for Metrolina Builders, Inc., in Charlotte, where she lives with her husband John, a retired architect. Ruth has five children and John has three; between them, they have eight granddaughters and two grandsons. She is the chairperson of the congregational support group at Carmel Presbyterian Church.

Vivian Fern Hodges '46 & '48
Vivian taught Bible classes at Black Mountain Elementary School from 1948-51, then joined the Presbyterian Board of World Missions and served in Brazil in evangelistic education until 1978. She taught preschool classes at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte until her retirement in 1988. Vivian volunteers in a cerebral palsy preschool and is a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.

Mary Priscilla Walker Locke '46
Mary is a retired high school teacher married to Joseph Reeves Locke, a retired United Methodist minister. They have four children: Priscilla Walker Locke Daniels, a teacher also married to a United Methodist minister; Josiah, a district executive with the Boy Scouts of America; Joseph, who works in refugee resettlement; and Mark, minister of music at a United Methodist church. Mary and Joseph live in Somerville, TN, where they are restoring the home her great-grandparents lived in.

Helen C. Loyd '46
Helen is now retired after 12 years teaching in the Georgia public schools and 32 years as director of Christian Education, when she worked in Tennessee, North and South Carolina. She lives in LeGrange, GA.

Mary Gene Manning '46
Mary's husband has retired from the Presbyterian Church USA and is now serving as a supply pastor. She has retired from teaching. They reside at 1032 Macgill St., Pulaski, VA 24301.

Lettie Davis McAllister '46
Lettie celebrated the arrival of grandchild number seven this year. Her address is P.O. Box 85, Mt. Pleasant, SC 28124.

Gladys Goodman McCorkle '46
Gladys works several mornings a week at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where she has been a secretary and publications person since 1967. She has been her church's organist since 1968, and is currently teaching a men's Bible class. She enjoys watching her 13-year-old granddaughter, Ashley, grow up.

Mildred Gilreath Ray '46
Mildred and her husband Gillie will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The Rays have two children and six grandchildren. As a former head of soccer on the Athletic Board of Montreat, she is proud that all six 'grands' became enthusiastic soccer players and one grandson won a college soccer scholarship.

Clara Koontz Richardson '46
Clara married Gene Richardson in 1948 and moved to Camden, SC in 1950. She worked for the Kershaw County School System for 12 years and was state president of the American Legion Auxiliary in 1988. The Richardsons have four children and ten grandchildren.

Frankie Hall Robbins '46 & '48
Frankie taught school for two years in Portsmouth, VA, where she met her husband, Billy James Robbins. They moved to Knoxville, where she taught school for 36 years before retiring in 1992. She still works as a travel consultant for an agency in Knoxville. The Robbins have five children, ten grandchildren and one great grandson scattered from Kansas to Florida. Frankie volunteers in the school library twice a week.

Rev. Anne M. Jenkins Sawyer '46
Anne earned a B.A. degree from Furman University after attending Montreat, then received an M.S.ED from the University of Southern Illinois at Edwardsville and an M.Div. from Columbia Seminary. She is a pastoral counselor at the Center for Pastoral Counseling in Charleston, SC. She has three children.

Elizabeth Crutchfield Smith '46
After Montreat, Elizabeth got an A.B. degree from Erskine College, attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina and Appalachian State, then taught school in Gastonia, NC. She married and raised three children: David, Elizabeth and Charlotte. Elizabeth recently moved into a condo in Gastonia.

Hazel Neal Blythe Sparks '46
Hazel enjoys teaching kindergarten in Ft. Hill Presbyterian Church's weekday school in Clemson, SC, and has been ordained as an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Her husband, E.G. Sparks, is a retired banker and has served as a municipal court judge for the City of Clemson. They have three children and two grandchildren.

Phyllis Marie Anderson Thornburgh '46
Phyllis earned a B.A. degree from Whittier College and now lives in Idio, CA with her husband Glenn Donald, who retired from water pollution control. She coordinates two volunteer organizations: FISH and Meals on Wheels, and is active in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She has four children: David Roger, Katy A. Nelson, Timothy Glenn and Michael Patrick.

Mary Gene Manning Longnecker '46 H.S.
Mary Gene graduated from Wheaton College in 1951, and married Rev. Hershey James Longnecker, a Presbyterian Church (USA) minister, in 1958. She taught school full time for 18 years and then as a substitute for seven years in Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. She was ordained as an elder in 1990. The Longneckers are both retired, although her husband is working part time as a stated supply pastor in Pulaski, VA. They have two children and four grandchildren.

William Allen Macauley '46 H.S.
After graduating from Erskine College, William served in Korea, taught high school math and then felt called to the gospel ministry. He said his life's work has been as a Presbyterian pastor and Army chaplain. He married Vivian Jarvis of Lexington, VA, and they have three children and one grandchild. William and Vivian retired from full time pastorate and live in Charlotte.

Joyce Graham Mitchell '46 H.S.
Joyce attended Montreat in 1945, then returned to Bay Village, OH, and went to Ohio State University. She and her husband, Bill, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary, and have two sons and five grandsons. The Mitchells retired to Vero Beach, FL,15 years ago, where Joyce works with the adult literacy program and volunteers at the local high school.

Winifred "Freddie" McMaster Webb '46 H.S.
Freddie graduated from Grady Hospital in Atlanta in 1949. From 1955-83, she worked for Eastern Air Lines, where she was a customer representative at the Tampa International Airport when she retired. Her husband, Eugene, is a retired hotel owner. Freddie has one son and one grandson, and attends First Presbyterian Church in Dunedin, FL. She and her neighbor, Hazel Kirk '44-'45, go skiiing several times a year in Colorado and Lake Tahoe. The Webbs spend their summers in Brevard, NC.

Mary Alice Yarborough West '46 H.S.
After graduating from Montreat, Mary Alice moved to Madison, WI to live with her sister, Fay, '44 H.S. Mary Alice married Myron West in 1947. They moved to California in 1954 and spent 30 years there. When their three daughters were in school, Mary Alice returned to college, graduating with teaching credentials from San Diego State College in 1961. The Wests moved to San Francisco in 1961, where she taught elementary school for 22 years. She and Myron took early retirement in 1984 and moved to Florence, OR. Myron died in 1989 during a rail trip across Canada.

Jo Anne Heizer Chambliss '48
Jo Anne and her husband, Campbell, recently spent 68 days touring Japan, New Zealand and Australia. They are both retired from teaching. She is very active in volunteering including teaching once a week in the literacy program in a correctional center. They live in Rawlings, VA. Their daughter Mary Dan is a technology specialist in Durham, and their son Lee and his wife Carey, both physicians, live in Greensboro with their two sons.

Jane Bachman Lumb '48
Prior to retiring, Jane taught sociology at the State University of New York at Oswego. She married Frank Lumb in 1977 and they have enjoyed traveling in their RV since their retirement - they have visited 45 of the 50 states. For ten years, they have spent winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and summers on their farm at Awasco Lake in New York.
