Anderson Hall Grand Reopening Scheduled for August 21

August 1, 2014

Anderson HallMontreat College has announced a “Renovation Celebration” at 3pm on August 21 to mark the Grand Reopening of its Anderson Hall dormitory building. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments, and tours of the renovated building. Anderson Hall—which is the college’s largest dorm, housing up to 144 students—is undergoing Phase 1 of a $2 million renovation this summer, with Phase 2 scheduled for next summer.

“Residence halls are a top priority among the college’s campus improvement priorities,” said new Montreat President Paul Maurer. “Anderson Hall was the first in a list of necessary facilities improvements which are planned for the coming months and years.”

Anderson Hall first opened in 1968 and was in need of numerous improvements. These improvements were made possible by the gifts of donors to Montreat College.

“I am deeply grateful for the generosity of those who made this project possible,” said President Maurer. “Anderson Hall is like new, and it is both a real and symbolic step towards the rebirth of Montreat College.”

Among the improvements to be unveiled at the “Renovation Celebration” are upgrades for each individual dorm room: new wood-grain laminate flooring, new windows, new sinks and vanities, new bathroom floors, and all-new shower fixtures. In addition, Anderson Hall has received a new roof, new high-endurance interior paint, improved internal piping, new hallway lighting and carpets, building-wide ventilation improvements, increased insulation, improved storm water drainage, new parking lot asphalt, and a number of safety code compliance improvements—including all new fire safety and sprinkler systems.

The renovation project was arranged through Aramark, the school’s partner in facilities and food service, and managed by H&M Construction. And even though numerous changes have been made to the original improvement plans, the project has remained on-schedule and in-budget.

Phase 2 of the project will be undertaken next summer and is scheduled to include new lobby windows, new front landscaping and rock work, and a complete kitchen renovation and expansion.

The Anderson Hall  “Renovation Celebration” is scheduled for 3pm on Thursday, August 21 at Anderson Hall, 319 Missouri Rd., Montreat, NC 28757. Please RSVP by Tuesday, August 19 by clicking here.
