The Montreat College Outdoor Education Department will host the 21st annual Adventure Education Conference on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the college’s Black Mountain campus, located at 191 Vance Avenue, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
Dr. Jim Cain, senior consultant to the Cornell University Corporate Teambuilding Program, former executive director for the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), and author of five adventure-based teambuilding texts, including the award-winning book, “Teamwork and Teamplay,” will be the keynote speaker for the event. Dr. Cain holds four college degrees, including a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from University of Rochester. He is the innovator of more than three-dozen teambuilding activities and props.
The event’s theme is “Adventurous Pursuit,” and will focus on how youthful enthusiasm and a sense of play can make professionals in the outdoor field better adventure educators. Conference workshops will range from innovative games and team building initiatives to unique adventure education program models.
Montreat students enrolled in “Conference and Event Planning,” a course within the Outdoor Education curriculum, will be planning the entire event. The conference includes a continental breakfast and lunch, over 15 workshops, a raffle, an exhibit hall with local vendors, and the “play-note” facilitated by Dr. Jim Cain.
The cost to attend the 21st Adventure Education Conference is $25 for students and $30 for other attendees before October 25. After October 25, the conference cost for students is $30 and $35 for other attendees.
