Army Chaplain and Montreat Alumnus to Speak During Homecoming Weekend

William Jeffery Sheets, graduate of Montreat College and chaplain for the 53rd Signal Battalion of the United States Army, will speak at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013 in Gaither Chapel during a special chapel gathering that will kick off Montreat’s Homecoming and Family Weekend.  

Chaplain Sheets joined the Army as a chaplain in 2007. He is currently one of three chaplains in the Army’s only space brigade, a division that provides satellite communications, missile warnings, space controls, and space support capabilities to the Army and other military branches. 

Jeff graduated from Montreat College in 1997 with degrees in bible and religion and english. During his time at Montreat, he was an athlete on the basketball team, a resident assistant in Davis Hall, and president of the Student Christian Association.   

After graduating from Montreat College, Jeff taught English in Kazakhstan, served as an associate pastor at a church in Charlotte, NC, and received his master’s of divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2005. 

Jeff is ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance. He is married to his wife Cathy, and they have three daughters. He and his family currently live in Colorado Springs, CO.
