Students Serve at Choctaw Reservation on Spring Break Missions Trip

April 15, 2013

This past March, a team of seven students participated in a week-long mission trip to the MOWA Choctaw Friends Center in McIntosh, AL. The center was founded in 1984 by the Associated Committee of Friends on Indian Affairs. The North Carolina Yearly Meeting (the Religious Society of Friends) assumed ownership of the property and responsibility of ministry activities in August of 2006.

Students assisted in an after-school program, hosted a youth group night and a community worship night, and held a basketball tournament. In addition to these things, students took on multiple work projects, such as building a wheelchair ramp for a family and re-tarring the roof of a woman’s home in the community. In regards to the trip, freshman Aimee Green said, “There were tons of opportunities to help the community and spread the love of Christ… the impact was huge. The trip was one I’ll never forget.”
