Community Invited to Celebrate Advent through Concerts and Prayer

November 30, 2012

Christmas season has arrived at Montreat College’s Chapel of the Prodigal. Thanks to the volunteer help of community members and friends of the college, the Chapel of the Prodigal is ready for holiday visitors to enjoy its Christmas décor.

On Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8 at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, December 9 at 3 p.m., the Music Program of Montreat College will present its annual Christmas Concert in the chapel. Admission is free and open to the public. The program will feature the Montreat College Choir, the Montreat Chamber Orchestra, and the Guitar Ensemble.

Teresa Price, Director of Auxiliary Services and chapel representative, thanks all who participated in decorating the chapel: “Community members and friends of the college put their hearts into creating a beautiful décor in the Chapel of the Prodigal for the Christmas season for everyone to enjoy.  The Chapel is a wonderful, intimate place for prayer and meditation.”  The Chapel of the Prodigal offers community members a place to be still and reflect on the holiness of the season amidst the flurry of the holidays.

The Chapel of the Prodigal is open for those who want to come and pray or for visitors who wish to see the fresco and experience the chapel for the first time. The chapel is also often known as an intimate place of worship on campus, where students, faculty, or people in the community can gather.

The Chapel of the Prodigal’s hours for December are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is closed for the weekends from November through March. The Chapel of the Prodigal is closed for the holidays from December 20, 2012 until January 2, 2013. To arrange a tour, call Teresa Price at 828-669-8012, extension 3821.
