Montreat College Announces New Master’s Program in Counseling

June 4, 2012

Montreat’s first MACMHC cohort kicked off the program on Monday, June 25.

Montreat College’s School of Professional and Adult Studies announces the launch of a new Master of Arts program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The program began June 25 in Asheville, according to Jonathan Shores, Montreat’s Vice President for Marketing and Enrollment.

The new Master’s will be a strong addition to both undergraduate and graduate students, according to Shores. “First, it will help our current students and students who have graduated from the Psychology and Human Services programs to continue their schooling,” Shores says. “Secondly, this expands the graduate level degree offerings at the college which helps with our position in higher education.” In addition to this, Shores explains how the program will meet needs in the local community in two ways: by educating practitioners who will then counsel local clients.

Graduates of the program will meet the requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) license as set forth by the NC Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.

Courses for the program will be available in Asheville, Morganton, and Charlotte.
