Traditional Program Testimonials
I’m from Montreat. I went away to a well-known university, and I
found I was stuck in my walk with God. Nothing was wrong. I had nice
friends. I was making good grades. When I came home at fall break, I
was running by Montreat College, and it just popped in my head that
this is where I was meant to be. I started growing again as soon as
I got on campus. People here are so open–faculty too, not just
students. You can talk honestly in this community. I love the
fellowship.
On a mission trip to Bolivia, we backpacked from town to town. We
carried everything we needed on our backs. That simplicity freed me
to focus on what I was there to do. It became so clear to me on that
trip that it’s not about me, it’s about serving other people.
-Helen Tate, Outdoor Education
I spent the spring at the Contemporary Music Center on Martha’s
Vineyard in Massachusetts. I studied music management and was given
three new artists to manage. They were also studying there for the
semester. As a manager, I was involved in planning recording
sessions, developing marketing campaigns, and producing live concert
events. This experience allowed me to focus solely on the music
industry and develop credible career goals. I also gained valuable
insights into the industry I want to work in. -Alicia Kelly, Music
I transferred to Montreat College. In my experience, professors here
care more. They put time and effort into you. They are real people,
and they are good at bridging the gap between student and professor.
-Josh Brown, Business It’s great to be close to a city like
Asheville and yet live in a town like Montreat. I love that I can
walk out my door and head straight up the mountain. -Matt Jones,
Outdoor Education I work 16 hours a week on the student newspaper.
It has been a real learning experience. It’s been a life experience.
I’ve learned to invest time in preparation. I’ve learned to manage
people. I’ve also learned to balance my job and my other life
priorities. -April Heyward, Assistant Managing Editor, Whetstone
and English Major The attention you get from your coaches really
helps build you as an athlete. We get individual workouts during the
off season where the coach breaks down our strengths and our
weaknesses. I’ve learned so much. -Jeremy Hurst, Basketball Player
I don't know what you might be hoping to glean from an education
centered around the Bible. When I changed my course of study midway
through my freshman year, I don't think I knew exactly what I was
hoping to learn, but there are some things I have already learned
and other things I hope to take away with me upon graduation.
My concentration within the department is cross-cultural ministry.
My professors use the eternal truths of the Bible to teach me how to
show the love of Jesus to people who are nothing like me. Our
assumption is that Christ's message of love for God and for one's
neighbor is timeless, universal, and life-changing. Since this is
the case, I have been forced to wrestle with many questions here at
Montreat. How can missionaries best preach the gospel in the midst
of extreme poverty and hostile cultures? How can the church best
show Christ's love to homosexuals? How do the social conditions in
communist nations effect a people's reception of the teachings of
the Bible? Not only have I been exposed to global issues like these,
but my knowledge of scripture and of doctrine have been greatly
increased. Even as I type this, I could present to you a cogent
argument for infralapsarianism within the framework of a traditional
reformational exchatological perspective. I couldn't do that before
I came to Montreat.
If you want it, the faculty and students at Montreat can provide you
with a biblical understanding that impacts all parts of your life.
Whether you plan to pursue professional ministry or not, these years
of study, worship, and fellowship will equip you with the means and
knowledge to experience and demonstrate God's love to others in
whatever field you choose.
-Andrew Black, Bible and Religion Major
Discussing our work from a Christian perspective in elementary
education has challenged me. As teachers, Christ calls us to love
all our students equally. That can be difficult. There are going to
be kids who are hard to love. However, when you care, children feel
that. If they feel that, they are more likely to do better, making
the whole class better.
-Lindsey Harris,Elementary Education
I am most grateful for the Christian-based perspective of science
Montreat College instilled in me. It is an attitude I have carried
with me as I study medicine. The practical applications of faith
taught at Montreat have largely impacted my interactions with
patients. -Katie Kirk '98, Medical Student, East Tennessee State
University, Knoxville, TN The professors are amazing. They have a
passion for teaching their students about God's creation while
showing how it affects us as God's children.

Adult Studies Testimonials
I chose Montreat College for affordability and their accelerated
format. I received a promotion 6 months after completing my MBA and
I think my degree had a lot to do with it.
-Bill Smith, MBA
What impresses me most about Montreat is the level of commitment
the college has to help the students. To teach, to encourage, and to
generally help each person who comes through their doors.
-Kristen Aquino, Class Representative BC69A
The culture of this school is one that is strong,
not because it supports or professes Jesus is the son of God, and
not even because it is a Christian based school, but because it
stands behind what it believes and welcomes all who will come with
no discrimination. This is all that I hope to be. It is my desire to
be strong, honest, caring, courageous, and filled with integrity,
all while persevering to be a better me to offer up to others.
Montreat has taught me to be me at all costs and to be proud of the
Christ who is my center. Montreat has taught me that as I grow and
progress, to grab those things along the way that make me better in
everything I aspire to become. Montreat College has set me on the
right path to be the greatest role model and I am proud to say that
I am a part of their family.
-Cherece Cannie AC40D
The thing that impresses me most about Montreat is that they set out
to be student focused and in my opinion they have done that. I
really feel like my educational concerns are a priority for each
member of the staff.
-Jerome Jennings AC42D
…the thing that impresses me most about Montreat is the passion. The
entire staff seems to really care about the students and takes the
time to know each student individually. Since I came from a large
undergrad program, I have really learned to enjoy the individual
attention and passion of the professors. I think this desire to
learn and achieve is the driving force behind Montreat and will
carry the program to the next level.
-Kevin Erny, MC12C
The main reason I chose Montreat College is because the school is
Christ centered. Since I started attending Montreat College, I feel
more confident while in public, and have noticed vast improvements
in my abilities to communicate with others. The instructors at
Montreat College are top notch, and understand the difficulties of
juggling work, school, and family life. In fact, when I graduate
from Montreat College, I would love to become an instructor, and
make someone else's experience of returning to school just as
rewarding as mine.
