It is not possible to maintain and expand a college music
program with the funding available through student tuition
alone. As is the case at all other colleges, our music program
needs to develop financial support through a variety of
initiatives.
Friends of Music
Our primary initiative for producing outside funding is the
Montreat College
Friends of Music. In addition to funding the Chapel Vespers
Series and Showcase Series, the Friends of Music is helping the
Music program through three specific initiatives:
- The Friends of Music
Scholarship. Funding for this competitive,
merit-based scholarship program is presently being solicited
from our Friends of Music members and others.
- The Choir Assistance Initiative. The Friends of
Music is doing several things to help the Montreat College
Concert Choir to finance their spring tour.
- The Music Student Assistance Initiative. The
Friends of Music is planning to provide an annual grant for
a fund that could be used to support student travel to
conferences and competitions, tickets to performing arts
events, and other special needs.
Current Fundraiser
An initiative undertaken by the Music program itself is our
annual fall Current fundraiser. Inaugurated in 2001, this
program provides our friends with an easy way to support the
Montreat College Music program by buying the greeting cards,
wrapping paper, and holiday gifts that they would likely have
planned to buy anyway. The Montreat College Music program
benefits by receiving fifty percent of the sales proceeds.

Choir Fundraisers
The Montreat College Choir members also do some sort of
fundraiser each year, such as our very popular and successful
Madrigal Dinner, "A Midwinter Feast," and a "Singing
Valentines" service. We will also be selling program
advertising for the Montreat College Choir spring tour. If you
own or operate a business and would like to run an advertisement

Donations
In addition to all of these, we have a continuing need for both
financial and in-kind donations. Larger gifts to fund-endowed
music scholarships is a particularly urgent need. If you would
be interested in helping us in any way, please contact the Chair
