
All Music Business majors graduating under 2002-2003 catalog
requirements or later must compile and submit a portfolio prior to
graduation.
The portfolio must include at least the following
twelve different items as examples of the student’s own documents. These
could all be produced as a part of the required assignments for the
courses indicated.
a. At least one audio
or video recording (made by the student) of a performance. (MS321, MS441)
b. At least a one-page
printed score of a musical composition (not necessarily of a student’s
own composition) created on music notation software. (MS301)
c. At least one
recital or other performance program (not necessarily the student’s own
performance). (CS201, EN312)
d. At least two different
publicity or promotional pieces, including but not limited to: flyers,
posters, brochures, booklets, web pages, press releases, etc. (CS201,
BS205, EN312, CS440, MS441, MS461)
e. A personal résumé
or biographical sketch. (CS201, BS205, EN312, CS440, MS441, MS461)
f. A research
paper addressing some topic related to an issue of copyright law. (BS311,
MS461)
g. At least two
different documents (for either real or hypothetical organizations,
projects, or events) that include or consist of common management tools
such as: mission statements, plans, budgets, schedules, organization
charts or staffing plans, etc. (BS101, BS205, BS209, BS230, BS402, BS406,
BS320, BS335, BS336, MS441, MS461)
h. At least one document
that is in the form of a sales, management, project, new product, or other
proposal. (BS101, BS205, BS209, BS230, BS402, BS406, BS320, BS335, BS336,

i. At least two
other items that illustrate or document the student’s competence in
mastering and applying one or more disciplinary areas included in the
Music Business curriculum. (AR245, BS101, BS201, BS205, BS209, BS230,

MS321, MS441, MS461)
The student shall be required to submit to his/her
advisor two copies of each item to be included in his/her portfolio, and
it will be strongly recommended that the student also keep a copy for
his/her own personal file and future use. The portfolio will be reviewed
each semester by the advisor with the advisee, and an action plan
developed with the student to assure that appropriate progress is being
made toward the fulfillment of this requirement.
Prior to graduation, the student’s portfolio shall
be reviewed by a committee of three people: the student’s advisor; the
Chair of the Music Department or another Music Department faculty member;
and the Chair of the Business Department or another Business Department
faculty member.
