The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree is interdisciplinary in nature,
combining specialized studies in music and business with a core of general
liberal arts and sciences. Graduates are prepared to pursue a wide variety
of career possibilities in the music industry and related fields. Due to
the diverse nature of the music industry and the possible career tracks of
our students, the Music Business Major at Montreat College is
distinguished by exceptional flexibility. Students have the capability to
craft a curriculum that is relevant to their own needs and interests.
The
Music Business program at Montreat is also very practical. All majors are
enrolled in the Music Business Seminar their
final four semesters, which gives them an opportunity to meet a wide
variety of professionals who work in some area of the music industry.
Music Business Seminar students must also complete a term project each
semester that provides an opportunity to pull together and apply what they
have learned from all of their other courses. These semester projects and
other coursework are compiled in a required
portfolio that can be useful in documenting acquired knowledge and
skills for future employers. Music Business majors have the option of
attending the Contemporary Music Center on Martha's
Vineyard for one semester in their Junior and Senior Year (subject to
space availability). Finally, all Music Business majors must also complete
an internship, which provides further practical
experience in preparation for their future career.
