CLIMBE provides science enrichment programs for high school students and is operated by the Outdoor Education Department at Montreat College. Over the past few years, CLIMBE has successfully served 200+ students from across North Carolina. The desired outcome is for students to become "informed and literate advocates" for climate- and water-related environmental issues with a desire to become involved in environmental protection in their home communities.
Unique Activities – Each CLIMBE Program features:
• Hands-on & Inquiry-based Learning Activities – These activities are designed to actively
engage the student to enhance learning.
• Character Development Activities – These activities are designed to enhance Communication
skills, strengthen Leadership abilities, recognize and appreciate Diversity, teach environmental
Ethics, and encourage environmental Stewardship.
• Community Action Project – Students will be encouraged (although not required) to design and
implement a Community Action Project after completion of the program. It is hoped that the student's
local community (i.e. school, church, town) will benefit from the data collected during the CLIMBE
program.
