Climb to the top of some beautiful rock walls as you compare the geology and biological diversity along these steep elevation gradients. Learn how to rock climb on various types of rock faces. Explore and compare geologic formations and the biodiversity of each rock face. Work with group members to determine the health of rock environments. Location
Rocks expeditions explore the mountains of North Carolina. The trips utilize natural areas and including Mount Mitchell State Park, Pisgah National Forest and Linville Gorge Wilderness Area.
Participants
CLIMBE is designed for students in grades 7 through 12. No previous science knowledge or outdoor skills are required. Any student with an open mind and willing spirit will succeed at CLIMBE. A moderate level of fitness is recommended, as trips can be physically demanding.
Trip Fee
The cost of a Rocks Expedition is $475. Register before February 15, 2012 and receive a $25 discount. The trip fee includes on-site transportation, food and lodging, camping gear, books and materials.
