“Montreat College changed my life and continues that transformation today,” noted William Haynes, 1985 Montreat graduate, Montreat trustee and CEO and founder of the wireless network development and distribution company, Sabai Technology.
The lessons William learned during his time at Montreat have played a significant role in his success today. His relationships with professors helped him turn his life around and discover a sense of belonging. “Montreat really helped me begin to see myself as successful and capable of high level accomplishments. It also helped me establish habits which have continued to help me achieve success,” William explained.
His time at Montreat and faith in Christ has instilled him with a deep sense of mission in life. That life mission led him to Thailand for 4 years to help establish Chiang Rai International School, a school that serves missionaries and Thai families in north Thailand. It also moved William to establish a scholarship fund in the early 90s in memory of his parents in addition to giving back to the place that had given him so much by serving Montreat College as a member of the Board of Trustees, a role he has maintained since 2001.
William credits his academic career at Montreat as being a time where he gained valuable research skills, discovered his identity in Christ and his potential as a leader.
William has taken the leadership lessons, sound business principles, knowledge of Christ and academic preparation he received at Montreat and brings it to his work with Sabai Technology’s staff and customers. Established in 2010, the small business now has a worldwide reach and ships products to customers in over 120 countries. Sabai was recently awarded the 2013 InnoVision Small Enterprise Award for outstanding leadership, innovation and technological excellence in South Carolina. The company now has 13 employees and is growing 40% per year.
